MeV Emission from the Carina Region
نویسنده
چکیده
Significant 1.8 MeV emission from the Carina region has been detected by COMPTEL. The emission is concentrated within 6 degrees or less near the Carina nebula NGC 3372, one of the brightest H II regions known in our Galaxy. This region contains a wealth of extreme young open clusters whose massive stars possibly contributed to an enrichment of Al in the ISM within the last few million years. The relation of these clusters and the peculiar object η Carinae with the observed emission is discussed. The Al yield of the clusters is estimated using current theoretical nucleosynthesis models.

Detection of Gamma-ray Emission from the Eta-carinae Region
We present the results of extensive observations by the gamma-ray AGILE satellite of the Galactic region hosting the Carina nebula and the remarkable colliding wind binary Eta Carinae (η Car) during the period 2007 July – 2009 January. We detect a gamma-ray source (1AGL J1043-5931) consistent with the position of η Car. If 1AGL J1043-5931 is associated with the Car system our data provide the l...

Pulsar wind driven synchrotron nebulae are offering a unique view on the connection of the pulsar wind and the surrounding medium. The Crab nebula is particularly well suited for detailed studies of the different emission regions. As inferred from the observed synchrotron emission extending beyond MeV energies, the Crab is a unique and extreme accelerator. In the framework of the synchrotron/in...
متن کاملInvestigation of the direct DNA damages irradiated by protons of different energies using geant4-DNA toolkit
Background: The total yields of direct Single-Strand Breaks (SSBs) and Double-Strand Breaks (DSBs) in proton energies varying from 0.1 to 40 MeV were calculated. While other studies in this field have not used protons with energy less than 0.5 MeV, our results show interesting and complicated behavior of these protons. Materials and Methods: The simulation has been done using the Geant4-DNA too...
متن کاملPossible evidence for MeV dark matter in dwarf spheroidals.
The observed 511 keV emission from the galactic bulge could be due to very light (MeV) annihilating dark matter particles. To distinguish this hypothesis from conventional astrophysical sources, we study dwarf spheroidals in the region observed by the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory/SPI such as Sagittarius. As these galaxies have comparatively few stars, the prospects for 511 ke...
متن کاملEarly Photon-shock Interaction in a Stellar Wind: a Sub-gev Photon Flash and High Energy Neutrino Emission from Long Grbs
For gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) born in a stellar wind, as the reverse shock crosses the ejecta, usually the shocked regions are still precipitated by the prompt MeV γ−ray emission. Because of the tight overlapping of the MeV photon flow with the shocked regions, the optical depth for the GeV photons produced in the shocks is very large. These high energy photons are absorbed by the MeV photon flow...
